Printers have come a long way, before they were ribbons now ink cartridges have replaced ribbons. They are hundreds of times more effective, producing hundreds of more pages and standardized a number of aspects of the industry to allow for remanufactured ink cartridges and cheap ink. Each brand of printer also makes their own styles of ink cartridges designed for handling their own special blend of ink. Canon ink for canon ink cartridges, Epson ink for Epson ink cartridges, HP ink for HP, Lexmark ink for Lexmark ink cartridges and so on. Many people repeatedly purchase a new ink cartridge as soon as theirs runs out spending significantly more than they need to on new ink cartridges. Many companies these day offer remanufactured alternatives. These are cartridges that have been returned to the company refilled, checked, and then sent back out to be sold. Price wise remanufactured items are usually cheaper so money can be saved. Another alternative and one that works well for those companies and individuals who do a lot of printing is refill kits. These can be purchased either generically or from the primary printer company if it is offered. Generic refill kits come with a list of the types and styles the ink works for. The process is easy and a refill kit can usually replace an ink cartridge between five and ten times. There is a little volume lost so it may not print out quite as many pages but for a quarter of the cost, its well worth the small loss. Cheap ink can be purchased in bulk, in other words large jars rather than smaller bottles. These are more economical for larger scale use and the ink stores well. There are a number of websites and online stores that sell ink in addition to the printer manufacture site, so it is advisable to shop around to see if you cannot find the best deal whether you are purchasing new, remanufactured or looking to purchase refill options. You can also check to see if the printer manufacturer offers a refill program. Refills can be a little tricky until you get the hang of it so some companies offer to refill the ink cartridges for you and send them back. There is usually a larger fee involved with this though it may not be as high as hitting the local office supply store for remanufactured cartridges. Ink cartridges have advanced to handle bigger projects, with greater clarity and effectiveness. This of course, means that there is more expense and the components themselves, cartridge and ink can be expensive, however, there are a number of lower and low priced alternatives to help with any budget. Finding these can take a little research but the benefits are well worth the time spent. |
